I believe, and witness, that one of the biggest challenges we face is that of keeping our hearts intact. It is no easy task when we are made to bear witness to the continued suffering, the tragedy, the darkness that is a part of life in this world at this time . And more difficult still when we are pressed under the weight of our individual traumas, and ancestral patterns. The heart of our humanity, that which keeps us more than just breathing. It is imperative that we become able to pierce through, back into love. To connect into that which keeps us truly alive, as opposed to just surviving. It is not possible to do if we numb ourselves, if we run from the pain that we feel, and if we turn a blind eye to the pain that exists in the world around us. The only way out is through. And we aren’t alone in this.
When we lose sight of what truly matters to us, and what is truly of value in this world, then we become lost. Little by little that light within begins to dim till the fire of the heart is barely burning. Barely alive. When I look out into the world today, I see this. I see so much beauty, but I also see the struggle to try to keep it alive. In a world that seems to want nothing more but to extract every last ounce of spirit for its own gain. The greed, the thirst for power. This is what we are up against. This is what we must become the opposite of. Instead of the greed that endlessly devours without satisfaction, we become the flame. Bringing light where there once was darkness. We become the love, the beauty, the reason. I look inside of myself and I try to find that flame, especially when it is dim. So dim that I can barely sense it.
Tending to this flame means listening to the heart and following where it leads. We stoke our flame when we hold true to our values. Even when it is difficult. And this flame has a habit of catching. Just as light spreads. When we ignite ourselves, we become a beacon for others. Little by little we bring back the heart into this world.
When you are feeling hollow, try to look to those who you know can inspire you. Don’t give up. There is another day tomorrow. And things have a funny way of changing. The deeper forces of life work to bring everything into harmony eventually. This is why I also believe that this state that the world is in, this state of apathy and amnesia, must be counterbalanced. So perhaps there are individuals who serve as the antidote. This is the medicine they bring to the world. They bring the flame of inspiration, of remembrance, of love. Perhaps you feel as though you are one of those people. Perhaps it is your gift to bring light into the darkness. Sometimes it is in the deepest darkness that we find our light, our power, our medicine.
When faced with the daily onslaught, we brace ourselves. With small actions that become powerful with consistency.
How can we know the power we hold unless we are put in a position where we require it? Unless we are put in a position where we must reclaim it for ourselves?
