We all search for meaning and for connection. For belonging. Whether we realize it or not. Just like food and like water, we all require connection to…spirit, god, the divine. Just as we need connection to a deeper sense of self, and connection to a community. Something beyond us. We need a sense of that unnamable force that runs through us and all of life. It goes by different names, and we all have different experiences with it. It is the spiritual substrate of existence that animates all living things. It is essential for us. As much as we would like to cling to the material world and all of it’s comfort and measurable certainty, we are not truly whole without connection to something beyond the physical. Because it is from there that we are given meaning. We all come from somewhere else, somewhere other than Earth. And it is to that place that one day we must return. It gives us meaning beyond simply being a body. And in this we see a deeper purpose, that we came here for a reason. We aren’t just a conglomeration of random particles brought together by chance. Deep inside we know there is an intelligence And that None of this is random.
We need a birds eye view, as much as we need to see the immediacy of what is around us.
And so we seek. Some seek to fill a void, or to make sense of experiences had. We seek out greater vision to make our lives more than just a day after day repeat. We seek out answers to the mysteries of life. And perhaps it’s not the answer itself that satisfies, but the journey towards the answers we seek that give us meaning. It’s the bonds that we form along the way, and all of the different scenery we are given along the winding road of life. And even in our moments of pause, where we say “Right here, this is perfect. I can stay here a while”, there will come a time when the stir for adventure moves us further along. The pull of our our own spirit, and of an even greater spirit still.
We need a journey to travel and a story to live. Something that is real and full and colored in. When we have an experience that takes us out of the conditioned false normalcy, we are forever changed. Forever, we search for where there is soul. For where the deeper currents of life flows through. And it is in those places, with those people, with those creatures, in those states of being, that we are nourished. And that hunger, the need of the soul is satisfied. When we find the current, we must drink deep. To remind ourselves of who we are and where we come from. Nothing can better prepare us to face the world as it is.
The world that has been constructed which is designed to deaden and deafen the senses, the intuition and instinct. The world which has been slowly eroded away by greed and silent acquiescence. I will say that this is not the world to which we belong. For we belong to the one that hums with life, with ever-present intelligence. When I look outside of the window and see the tree branches dancing with the night wind. When I see the aurora borealis dance it’s way across the night sky, in a place I never imagined I would get to witness it. When I find myself around a fire surrounded by familiar faces…
These are among the things that feed my soul. Things that help to keep it strong.
