Prophetic Dreams…

I do often wonder how much of what we call Deja Vu is actually a prophetic dream happening that we don’t remember we dreamt. That feeling of having experienced a moment in time already, of living it again. Maybe it was already lived in a way. Maybe it was dreamt.

Over the years I have had more than my handful of what I would call prophetic dreams. When something I had a dream about happens. Usually the day after the dream, and typically not mirroring eachother exactly. But the symbolism is there still, in an uncanny way. It’s been a long time since I experienced something like this but it happened again last night.

It was a simple dream. I’m on train tracks inside a tunnel. Approaching behind me is a train, and it’s on fire. I grab a hold of a ladder at the edge of the tunnel and feel the train pass by behind me. The next morning I’m reading a book called Underground by Will Hunt.

In the first chapter, the author describes himself in almost the exact scenario. Underground, on train tracks, in a tunnel. He crouches to the side and the train passes safely. He says, quote

“As I crouched there my whole body quaked, my mind on fire”

Instances like these are reminders for me. Even as someone who has had many experiences throughout my life, it can be easy to get swept up in the day to day. So many of us doubt ourselves and our experiences because the dominant culture is one that tends to dismiss such things. But I think now more than ever we need to remember that we are more than just physical bodies.

And because we are more than just the physical, we also have access to things beyond the physical. I believe dreams of this kind come to us as guideposts on our journey of life, maybe to let us know we are headed in the right direction, or that we are being guided in ways we don’t fully see.
